New Details from Social Security
Beginning August 2014, Social Security number printouts will no longer be available in local Social Security field offices. Individuals who need proof of their Social Security number and cannot find their card, will need to apply for a replacement card.
In addition, beginning October 2014, Social Security field offices will stop providing benefit verification (Award) letters, except in emergency situations. Benefit verifications are available online, and can be obtained anytime by accessing your my Social Security account located at: www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount, or requested through Social Security’s national toll-free number: 1(800)772-1213.
You may find that a, my Social Security account is easy and convenient to use.  Your personal online my Social Security account is a valuable source of information. You can use your account to check your benefit and payment information; change your address and/or phone number; and start or change direct deposit of your benefit payment. If you are not yet receiving benefits from Social Security you can use a my Social Security account to get your Social Security Statement.
If you do not already have a my Social Security account, you can sign up for one easily at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount
To create an account you must provide some personal information and give Social Security answers to some questions that only you would know. You’ll also have to create a username and password that you will use to access your online account. This is meant to protect you and keep your personal Social Security information private (You may sign in or create an account to access your own personal information only. Unauthorized use of this service is a misrepresentation of your identity to the federal government and could subject you to criminal or civil penalties, or both).
