We were established as The NJ Foundation for Aging (NJFA) in 1998 with an idea, some stalwart visionaries and the goal to bring advocacy, education and leadership that enable older adults to age with dignity and choice here in the Garden State. Our founders were Executive Directors of County Offices on Aging: Margaret Chester, Susan Chasnoff, Rosemarie Doremus and Carl West, who saw a need for a statewide organization to address the issues they saw in their communities. Those four founding trustees worked with founding Executive Director, Grace Egan to bring NJFA to life.
In 2021, the organization rebranded and changed its name to more accurately reflect its current work, with a re-emphasis on and commitment to policy advocacy and education, engaging stakeholders and expanding public awareness. At the same time, some programs were discontinued in order to strengthen its capacity to focus on these goals. NJAAW strives to be the leading organization committed to older adults throughout New Jersey.
